Best Practices

Online Backup Best PracticesDeveloping and maintaining an Online backup strategy is not a one time event.  It is a process that requires time attention, and a watch full eye. At OnlineBackupSearch.com have outlined a good process for establishing and monitoring your backup plan.

  1. Prepare an overall Data backup plan. This plan includes what data is backed up, where it is backed up, and how often. Check out these guide for more info on a Home Data Backup Plan for multiple computers or Business Data Backup Plan.
  2. Organize and Prepare you data for Backup. Ensure you are not backing up duplicate files or files that no longer needed. For more information see our guide to preparing your data for online backup.
  3. Install / Configure / Run your first backup.  How this is done will really depend on the service you choose to work with.
  4. Restore Testing. Once all the data has been backed up, restore several test files. This is really the final and most important step in the process. If you can not get a good version of your file restored then all of the time and money for backup has not been spent well.
  5. Schedule Routine Checks. Take a few minutes each week or every couple of weeks to check up on you data backups. Check to see that all data is being correctly backed up and you are familiar with the file restore process.
